Resolution

One of my resolutions for this year is to not let work take control of my life.  I work at a Dairy Queen (hence the annoying mouth mascot) full time-soon to be part time, to pay for school.  It can often be physically and emotionally draining what with the delights of customer service and the high turnover rates, and it often leaves me with no energy to do the actual schoolwork that I’m working to be able to do in the first place.  This year my goal is to worry less about work and focus more of my time and energy on animation mentor and just generally not getting completely burnt out.

I also really dislike that mouth mascot…. :)

Resolution

Sorry ! I was a little quick off the mark!
This is brilliant, Hope all you guys are having fun!

Challenge: Resolution

Welcome back Sketch Squad and Happy New Year!

To start off, we're going to have some minor changes here at Spike's Sketch Squad to help boost the time for folks to draw. Some are cosmetic around the site. But the big one...Challenges will now be bi-weekly and also artists are encouraged to revisit past challenges if they so desire.

We'd also like to encourage everyone to comment, comment, comment! Treat this blog as a part of your "Post 5" and let's work together to build a stronger, constructive community.

Now that the deadlines have extended for challenges, let's talk about the quality of our submissions. Please work hard to submit a drawing you are proud to post and get feedback on. I understand quick sketches, but let's boost to rendered drawings or colored pieces. Let's push ourselves to draw at the level we want to be at, not just to have something to turn-in.

This term's challenge will begin with the theme of...

Resolution!

Drawing your resolution can be a part of making it happen. Visualize, then realize! This challenge is due Sunday, January 16th.

Here are some links to help you on your way:

Kurious Kitty

I know the curiosity killed the cat cliche
is so common, but this drawing was inspired
by an actual event... so I couldn't resist.

Curious Curiosity.

Was thinking of something stereotypically related to cat curiousness, but the whole cat thing didn't work out...entirely. Probably because I can't draw cats...entirely.

Happy doodle'n! And maya-based walking! And/or otherwise drawing/animating in general!

Week 10 Challenge: Curiosity

This week's theme is...

Curiosity!

Drawings are due Saturday, November 27th!

We will have no voting for next week's challenge, instead we're going to shake it up a bit with a American Golden Age Redesign challenge. Reimagine the cartoon characters of your choice from the Golden Age (1930's - 40's) in your own style! According to Wikipedia, a few of these include:
  • WB/MGM: Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Wile E. Coyote & Road Runner, Tom & Jerry
  • Disney: Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy
  • Fleisher: Popeye, Betty Boop, Superman
  • Sullivan: Felix the Cat
Good luck!

Koi Dragon

The koi fish evolving to a dragon.
From Answers.com:
The koi fish in Japanese folklore represents the overcoming of obstacles, because the koi fish travels up the yellow river and when it comes to the end of the river it transforms into the dragon; thus overcoming the adversity represented by the strong river to fufill its own destiny.
The Koi is the symbol of strength and will, the will to go against odds to reach the destiny. And the Dragon is the power and ferocity. The mystery and Aura.

WK9- Evolution

My submission for the idea of 'Evolution', which I interpreted as the change of something over time and chose to show a progression of myself from a little girl to who I am now. I quickly gave it flat colors so it was more than just a simple sketch.

Evolving! Sort of...ish.

Not exactly so much critter-esque evolution. More of a thing/stuff evolution. Probably a bit off-point and/or a mild blend of other voting selections from last week. But a doodle nonetheless.

Happy doodle'n!

I love bunnies so I thought I would try one.... from krispy treats...

Above is my work in progress...

Here is the final piece.

My furry friend has been captured for stealing celery from a garden : )
(As you can see I had to modify the ears (the krispy treat ones were very tasty)

A Carrot's Nightmare

So I know that it's not entirely made of food, but it's what my mind first jumped to when I learned this weeks challenge...  I'm not sure what that says about me though, hahaha.

And yes, that is a Zefron poster on the wall.  I promised my Maya Springboard classmate Jay Fontano that I would put one in some future assignment, so this will have to do for now.

Week 8 Materials Challenge: Food

This week's theme is your choice, but the material is...
Food!

Dinner is due Saturday, November 13th!

This week's challenge is a special materials challenge! The subject is free-for-all but your "drawing" must be made out of food!

Voting for next week's challenge is up!
